Steps Dance School (SDS) opened its doors in August of 2002. The studio itself consists of a 30'x15' dance floor made up of a sprung floor and covered with marley. Marley is a non-slip floor covering used in professional dance studios. The sprung floor acts as a shock absorber to prevent injuries. Since it's opening Steps Dance School has performed Biannual Productions of the Nutcrackers and annual recitals. SDS has also participated in various parades, nursing homes, schools, club meetings, etc. around Garden City.
Sabrina Rishel is the owner and instructor at SDS. She has over 20 years of dance experience and is continuing to increase her knowledge by taking classes herself. Her dance experience has consisted of instruction under many different professional dance teachers to become proficient in tap, ballet, jazz, clogging, and modern dance. She has performed with the Pueblo Sangre de Cristo Ballet Theater, Sunshine Generation, and at numerous 4-H functions at County State Fairs. She has participated in national competitions by both Starlight and Carr.
Our mission is to provide quality education in the performing arts for the community. It is our philosophy and commitment to educate all students, consistent with their abilities and goals. This education will contribute to a sense of personal worth, independence, emotional maturity, and self-confidence.
Steps Dance School practices a policy of open enrollment. Students are accepted into the classes without regard to sex, race, religion or nationality. We are confident that you will find SDS a quality choice for you or your child. SDS pledges to provide each student with a safe, pleasant and well-rounded dance education, where the dancer can develop at their own pace with the professional training and support at SDS.
Your involvement in the programs is essential. Letters will be sent home with students periodically throughout the year to keep you informed of studio activities and events that parent involvement will be necessary. There is also a bulletin board where information will be posted and also sent out via e-mail.
