Steps Dance School
Ballet
Etiquette
- The barre is for support when performing ballet steps and
combinations and should not be used for slouching or hanging on.
- The barre prepares us for working out in center (center
work). Center work prepares us for
the stage. Keep this in mind when you come to class, barre
work is thought to be boring and tedious but it does have a significant
purpose. Think about it like this: If there were a tower of 3 building
blocks, barre work would be the bottom block,
Center work would be the middle block, and the stage/performing would be
the top block. What happens if you were to remove the bottom block?
- Be on time for
class wearing proper attire and with hair neatly pulled back into a bun.
- Please do not
speak unless addressed by the teacher. Do not talk back to the teachers or
other students.
- Show respect
towards your instructor, other students and all facility members inside
and outside of class.
- Curtsying/Bowing
and applauding after class is a traditional way of ending class and
thanking your instructor for their instruction.
- Ballet is more
elegant than the other styles of dance.
Ballet dancers are respected because of their dedication,
discipline, perfection, self-control, and grace.
