Steps Dance School

Nutcracker & Recital

This is an introduction of what to expect for the performances.

A hand book will be handed out prior to the performance.

Performing opportunities are an essential part of a dancer’s education.  All of our dancers are encouraged to demonstrate their skills and gain stage experience through our bi-annual Nutcracker productions and annual recitals.  Dress rehearsals are held a few days before, during the week. It is not mandatory for students to participate in these events: however we do encourage every dancer to participate. If the student is participating in these events it is mandatory that they attend the dress rehearsals. The Nutcracker and recital are wonderful opportunities to display dancing skills, perform in professional productions, and have an enriching and memorable experience.

Costumes

Nutcracker Costumes - These costumes are provided by Steps Dance School and will remain the property of SDS.  The costumes will be checked out and checked in at each dress rehearsal and production. Students will need to purchase the correct style and color of tights, shoes and nude leotard (if they have more than one part).

Recital Costumes - Students will purchase and wear costumes selected by their instructor.  Generally, these cost between $65 and $85.  Measurements will be taken the week of January 10-15 during class. Full payment is due before your costume will be ordered (this also applies to Sunshine Generation). February 15 is when the costume money is due.  Anything paid after this date Steps Dance School is not responsible if it does not arrive in time for the performance.

Every effort is made to ensure the proper size for each dancer. Usually, there are simple alterations, sewing on straps, hemming pants, etc. necessary. The dancer’s family is expected to make these minor adjustments.
